Okay so I updated the tune in radio app for my iphone and ever since then my wifi signal says it's turned off. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I've tried turning airplane mode on and off and have also reset network settings to no avail. I'm not sure what else to try. Thanks.

have your phone forget the network, and once you tap that particular one again, it'll just ask for your password and connect you if it's entered right.

Unfortunately, that won't work if Wi-Fi is turned off in general. have you tried turning Wi-Fi off and on in settings? That might help. if that doesn't work, you can try forgetting the network as chelsea suggested. worth a try. if that doesn't work, try resetting your phone. If that doesn't work, you may need to restore your phone, as a file could have been corrupted somewhere.

I know WiFi has to be turned on. I was wrongfully, I guess, assuming that was known to the OP.

I've tried turning wifi on and off in settings and it doesn't do anything. It just stays off continually. I'm unable to forget a network that isn't there. Can I reset the phone without sighted assistance?
Thanks.

Is there something (bug?) in iOS 6 that turns Wi-Fi off at random? I knnow it did this for me on the first day ... my data charges have been going through the roof since September and I have no clue why. I often check the status bar, and it always says Wi-Fi is on, but I am just wondering if this has hit anyone else.

Mine just says it's off at all times and I haven't been able to get it turned back on. Hope they can fix it soon if this has to do with ios 6.

My phone currently is without service, and Wi-Fi has worked flawlessly for me.
Yes, you can restore the phone without sighted help. there are two ways to do this:
1. Connect your phone to your computer, select it in the devices combo box in iTunes, make sure the summary radio button is checked, and click the restore button. iTunes will basically take care of the rest, though you can always check the status at any time. At some point, you will hear your phone disconnect and reconnect while it restarts. this is normal. Once that happens, you will be asked whether you want to set it up as a new phone, or restore from backup. since you may have a corrupt file, I would recommend treating it as a new device. make sure all your music, books and voice memos, ETC. have been added to your iTunes library so you can sync your phone later. Unfortunately, I have not restored my phone since updating to iTunes 11, so some of the instructions may be a little different. the basic process is still the same, though.

2. go to settings, general, and then reset. Choose erase all content and settings. You will be asked to confirm. Once you have done that, keep in mind that your phone won't be able to be used while the update is being installed, though you will be able to use it while the update is downloading. Once your phone has restarted, Tripple click the home button to turn on Voiceover, and from there, the process is much the same as it is with the iTunes restore. If you have no light perception, you may want to leave your phone plugged in while it restores so it will make a sound once it is ready to use. Set up as a new device, and once you have everything set as you want it, sync your phone with iTunes to put all of your media back on it. However, since you don't have Wi-Fi access, you will most likely need to restore via iTunes, unfortunately. You can also restore from an iCloud backup, though once again, you will need Wi-Fi access. Hope this helps.

Another thought will my contacts also be erased?

they should be stored in iTunes as well.

or through i-cloud. If they are thrugh i-cloud then you'll need wifi to fix it. This problem also happened to two of my friends. One of them had a dead wifi chip. So, if you resetit and that doesn't work you'll probably have to take it in. The other one also had to get a new phone.

IO 6 has wi fi issues with some phones, so do as suggested, then you'll need help.
The latest version has that fixed, so maybe try updating it wiith your computer first.
Verizon has given customers with this issue free data until Apple gets is fixed completely.

Okay so I took my phone in to the vzw store and they're now shipping me a new one. Turns out mine is only 1 of about 200 with this wifi issue figures. Oh well at least I don't have to pay for a new phone anyway. Thanks for all the help and info.

This hasn't been a software problem for me; wi fi works fine here. May I ask what type of iPhone you were running? Was it a faulty iPhone 5 newly purchased?
